Sage is an aromatic herb of the mint family cultivated for its pungent leaves. Sage is native to the Mediterranean region. It prefers arid and rocky terrains and it’s widely cultivated all over the world. Sage has a strong aroma and earthy flavor so it appears in many European cuisines. Sage is also used as a natural cleaning agent, pesticide, and ritual object in spiritual sage burning or smudging. It is also used for digestive problems, including loss of appetite.
