ABOUT THE PROJECT

Between June 2023 and May 2025, Associazione Kora ran its Erasmus+ accredited youth mobility project 2023–2025. Nine international activities took place at La Buona Terra, the educational farm in Passignano sul Trasimeno (Umbria) where Kora is based: four youth exchanges and five activities for youth workers. The year followed a clear path: building the partnership, training the group leaders, running four youth exchanges on the environment, evaluating together, and going deeper into permaculture and sustainable design.

What we wanted to achieve

  • Environmental awareness: helping young people understand climate change, from European policies to the impact of their own choices, and giving them practical ways to reduce it.
  • Inclusion: involving young people who live in isolated or marginal situations in activities that connect their local reality with Europe.
  • Multiculturalism: a society where everyone can keep their own cultural identity, lived by working and living together with peers from other countries.
  • Quality non-formal education: strong group leaders and youth workers who can make a youth exchange a real peer-to-peer learning experience.

Permaculture designs for La Buona Terra

During the Permaculture for Youthworkers course, six teams of youth workers designed the future of La Buona Terra as a place for learning: water, soil, food gardens, buildings and educational spaces. The teams presented their designs at the end of the course.

OBJECTIVES

In numbers

  • 226 people took part: 201 participants, 19 group leaders and 6 trainers
  • 9 activities: 4 youth exchanges and 5 activities for youth workers
  • 36 organisations: Kora and 35 partners from 15 countries
  • 97 participants with fewer opportunities, 43% of everyone involved
  • 125 people travelled green, 55% of everyone involved

What came out of it

  • Leaders who lead. Youth workers trained in Take the Lead went on to lead their national groups in the youth exchanges of 2024.
  • Sustainability as daily practice. All activities were hosted at La Buona Terra, where sustainability was part of everyday life on the farm, not only a topic for discussion.
  • Closing together. Every youth exchange ended with a final gala where participants presented to each other what they had created and learned.
  • Positive feedback. In seven evaluation questionnaires (168 responses), the average overall score per activity ranged from 7.9 to 9.3 out of 10. In the two permaculture training courses, 35 of 36 participants who answered the EU survey would recommend the experience.
  • Materials anyone can use: toolkits, a cookbook and guidelines, free to download.
