Training course for youth workers and group leaders
Group leaders at the centre: a training course to improve peer-to-peer learning in youth exchanges by involving leaders fully in the activities.
Why
Over the years, Kora and its partners noticed a pattern: the more group leaders are involved in a youth exchange, the better its results. Too often leaders are left out of the preparation and a facilitator ends up running everything, which weakens peer-to-peer learning. Take the Lead puts group leaders at the centre.

What happened
- Participant, leader or facilitator? What makes a good leader, and what makes a bad one, seen from both sides.
- The superleader: the qualities of a leader, from listening and inclusion to leading by example.
- Youth exchanges 101: how a youth exchange works, before, during and after.
- Facilitation: a world café on facilitation, then participants prepared and tested their own activities for the coming exchanges, with feedback from the group.
- Giving feedback and running reflection groups, plus “Mission Impossible”, an outdoor team challenge.
- An open space and an intercultural night organised by the participants.
Results
- The trained leaders went on to lead their national groups in the youth exchanges of 2024.
- Average overall score: 8.9 out of 10 (24 responses, joint questionnaire with the parallel course Lead Up Reprise).
“I found out about qualities I have myself as a group leader and on which qualities I still have to work on, and how to step out of my comfort zone and not be afraid to try out new things.” (a Take the Lead participant)
“Seeing how supportive the group was and how well the flow of the experience went.” (a Take the Lead participant, on what they found most interesting)
