Youth exchange on the olive harvest and food-preserving traditions (coming up)
Young people from eight countries will take part in the real olive harvest at the farm and share the food-preserving traditions of their countries.
What it is about
Fermentation to Winter starts from food preservation: olive growing and processing on one side, fermentation traditions on the other. November is the real olive harvest season in central Italy, so participants will take part in genuine seasonal work, not a demonstration. Each of the eight countries brings its own preserving tradition, from cured olives and brines to pickles, fermented vegetables, wine, cheese and preserved fruit. Every group both teaches and learns, so nobody arrives as the expert.
The exchange also opens bigger questions: rural livelihoods, inclusion, and who decides how food is grown, processed and shared. The historic communal olive press of the area will serve as an example of shared civic infrastructure.
How to take part
Participants are selected by the partner organisations in each country. Contact the partner organisation in your country, or write to Kora at [email protected].
This page will be updated after the exchange.
