ARROZ DOCE DA AVO ILDA
(GRANDMA ILDA’S SWEET RICE)
INTRODUCTION
A recipe from Filipa, volunteer in Kora in Summer 2021
It’s a Portuguese traditional dessert, usually, we do it for Christmas or Easter. This is my Grandma Ilda’s recipe, written by my father Martinho!
- Country of origin: Portugal
- Type of Meal: Dessert
- Season: Any season (winter is better!)
- Diet restrictions: Vegetarian
- Number of servings: 10
INGREDIENTS
- 1 litre Milk
- 150 gr Rice
- 125 gr Sugar
- 1 Lemon
- 1 Cinnamon stick
- Cinnamon powder
- 2 Egg yolks
- Salt
STEPS
- Put a little bit of water in a pot, together with the lemon peel and the cinnamon stick, put on fire, let ir boil for about 5 min.
- In another pot, at the same time as point 1, heat the milk (no need to boil)
- At this point, you can remove the lemon rinds from the water or leave them until the end. Add the rice to the pot that has the water and stir until the rice absorbs all the water
- Slowly add the milk to previously heated rice, stirring constantly, slowly
- Add about a teaspoon of salt
- The rice should be cooked slowly in the milk, over low heat, stirring occasionally, for about 30 minutes
- When the rice is well cooked and well connected with the milk, add the sugar
- In a mug or bowl, place the yolks of 2 eggs and beat them well
- Turn off the fire. Add the egg, stirring well
- Distribute the rice on small platters. U can decorate with cinnamon powder
