Dora took part in the short term EVS project “Rural Europe”, organised by Associazione Kora in Fattoria Scuola “La Buona Terra”, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Italy, from 20 November to 20 December 2017. The project involved 12 volunteers from Estonia, France and Greece to support the farm in environmental and agricultural activities.
This is her story!
My name is Theodora and I’m Greek. I’m 20 years old and I’m currently on my third year of university, in Athens. On November 2017 I got the opportunity to travel to Italy and spend one month there volunteering.
I don’t even know how I can describe my experience. From day 1, I was sure it was going to be great, and it really was. I got to meet people from Italy, Holland, France, Estonia, Spain, Peru and of course more Greeks! Meeting them was one thing; living in the same house with them was another one. Every day was better than the previous one. I kept learning new things, trying new cuisines, exchanging ideas, talking about tradition and the differences between the culture of each country, listening to other people’s achievements and experiences… I loved everything, the night walks in the farm, chilling on the benches, drinking hot chocolate every night while playing board games (while trying to convince everyone to play with me actually), teaching the guys in the house Greek words, everything.
The working hours were great too; olive picking and wood cutting (which was my favorite thing to do) were really fun because we were all chatting while working and hours just passed by nicely. I also tried to travel around Italy as much as I could. I went to Siena, Florence, Venice, Rome, Perugia and some small villages. Every city was special in a way, the people I went there with, the places we visited, the food we ate…everything was unique.
I’m so grateful I got to live this and I can’t thank the great “La buona terra”, and every person behind it, enough for hosting me. I hope one day I will get to see every person I met there again and go back to the farm for a visit as well!
Grazie mille per tutto, ci vediamo presto!
